What happens to transparency when converting PNG to JPG?
JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas are flattened onto a white background. If you need to keep transparency, convert PNG to WebP instead.
Why is the JPG smaller than my PNG?
JPG uses lossy compression tuned for photographs, while PNG uses lossless compression designed for sharp edges and flat colors. For photos, JPG files are typically several times smaller at a visually identical quality.
Which quality setting should I pick?
90% is visually indistinguishable from the original for most photos and is the default. Drop to 75 to 85% for smaller files, and keep 95 to 100% only when the file will be edited again later.
