Best quality
Lossless structural optimization: metadata cleanup, unused object removal, and stream compression. Every PDF can use this safely, images stay exactly as they are.
New tool
Reduce PDF file size right in your browser. Text, fonts, and vector content are never degraded, only embedded images are optimized, and you choose how aggressively.

How it works
Lossless structural optimization: metadata cleanup, unused object removal, and stream compression. Every PDF can use this safely, images stay exactly as they are.
Everything in Best Quality, plus embedded raster images re-encoded at moderate JPEG quality. Visually near-identical results with a meaningful size reduction.
Aggressive image re-encoding plus resolution downscaling for the biggest reduction on scanned and image-heavy documents. May reduce image quality inside the PDF.
Text, fonts, and drawn vector shapes are never re-rendered or rasterized at any level, only embedded images are touched.
Questions
Not with Best Quality or Recommended levels. Best Quality applies only lossless optimizations, metadata cleanup, stream compression, and object packing, so text, fonts, and vector graphics are untouched byte-for-byte in appearance. Recommended additionally re-encodes embedded raster images at roughly 85% JPEG quality, which is visually near-identical. Only the Smallest Size level meaningfully reduces image detail, and it is clearly labeled as such.
Upload your PDF, choose the Smallest Size level, and check the result. That level re-encodes embedded images at reduced resolution (capped around 1400px) and lower JPEG quality, which is what gives scanned and image-heavy documents the biggest reduction. If the PDF is mostly text with few images, gains are smaller because text is never degraded, in that case there is usually little to remove safely.
There is no upload at all. Compression runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript, your file is processed on your own device and never sent to any server. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it will still work.
